Personal Statement

I am a first class graduate of Botany and a Professor of Plant Systematics and Conservation with the aim of providing evidence-based solutions for a sustainable environment. With over 15 years of experience in Molecular Systematics, DNA barcoding, Ethnobotany, and Environmental sustainability; my research emphasizes the conservation of plant genetic resources, forensic botany, and the integration of biotechnology into biodiversity conservation efforts. I have led and collaborated on national and international research grants from UNILAG-CRC, LASRIC, TETFUND, Lennox-Boyd, Google, GBIF and IREX supporting works on endangered species, allergenic pollen, and plant biodiversity in urban and rural Nigeria. I am passionate about integrating science with public health and environmental resilience.

My expertise is supported by high-impact publications, numerous postgraduate and undergraduate supervisions, and participation in global initiatives on biodiversity informatics. I am also committed to capacity building through various academic leadership roles and global fellowships such as IREX-UASP and GBIF. I am an active member of several professional bodies including the American Society of Plant Systematics, USA, Botanical Society of America, Botanical Society of Nigeria, and Nigerian Young Academy.
