Head of Department -PROF. OLAOSEBIKAN ABIDOYE OLAFADEHAN
I am a lecturer, researcher and community service provider, with passion for advancing sustainable solutions for environmental wastewater management employing functionalised composite nanoparticles as adsorbent synthesised from underutilised shell wastes. Equally, my research interest focuses on the development of green catalytic processes using renewable feedstock(s) (i.e., biomass) for hydrogen production to solve the problem of greenhouse gases emissions as well as the emissions of other air contaminants, oxides of nitrogen and sulphur, thereby offering a nearly closed carbon loop. In addition, my collaboration with Professor Olayide Obidi of the Department of Microbiology is in the development of antimicrobial and green technology-based paints to combat respiratory issues caused by seasonal biofilms in selected Lagos tourist centres. Equally, I do focus on modelling and simulation of industrial fluid catalytic cracking units (FCCU) using different kinetics of heavy oil conversion. My ultimate design is to translate research into scalable products, with commercial values, and training models that address national, continent and global challenges in sustainable development through collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches. I have supervised quite a number of undergraduate theses, masters and doctoral dissertations. My international citation includes “MARQUIS WHO’S WHO IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING 9TH EDITION (2006). I am a Member of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Society of Automation, Control & Instrumentation of Nigeria (SACIN) and Society of Chemical Industry (SCI). I am a Registered Engineer with the Council for The Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). I am a Fellow of the Institute of Oil & Gas Research & Hydrocarbon Studies (FIOGR) and International Society for Development & Sustainability (ISDS). I have authored a book entitled “Fundamentals of Adsorption Processes”, ISBN: 978-620-3-30705-4, which can be assessed in AMAZON Stores. I delivered an inaugural lecture entitled “Modelling and Simulation: The Under-Tapped Golden Resource and Implications for Process Industries” at the University of Lagos on September 18, 2019. I am currently the Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Engineering Research (JER), a publication of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria.
